Roberto Corazzi passed away
With deep sorrow, CICOP Italy announces the passing, yesterday, November 18, 2024, of Prof. Roberto Corazzi, a long-time collaborator and leading figure of our association.
Architect and former full professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence, Prof. Corazzi dedicated his life to the study and dissemination of architecture and the recovery of architectural heritage. He passionately taught “Fundamentals and Applications of Descriptive Geometry” and “Photogrammetric Survey of Architecture and the Environment”, training generations of students and scholars.
Member of the Scientific Council of the Istituto Italiano dei Castelli and of the Steering Committee of CICOP Italy, he has held key roles for our association, including that of Secretary General and Honorary President of the sixth Biennial of Urban and Architectural Restoration (BRAU6) celebrated in Florence in 2023. Prof. Corazzi was also a member of the Scientific Committee of the international congress “Domes in the World”, held in Florence in 2012, and has organized important exhibitions and events on Brunelleschi and his dome, leaving an indelible mark on the academic and cultural community.
Author of numerous publications, he has dedicated particular attention to the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, a symbolic work of the Renaissance and of Brunelleschi’s genius, contributing with in-depth studies to raising awareness of the complexity and extraordinary nature of this architecture. His texts on the dome, appreciated both in Italy and abroad, will remain a point of reference for scholars and enthusiasts. Prof. Corazzi was also an excellent architectural designer, capable of combining scientific rigor and artistic sensitivity in his works.
In addition to his countless academic contributions, we fondly remember his humanity, kindness and ability to involve and inspire anyone who met him. Thanks to his commitment, he was able to masterfully narrate the beauty and value of our cultural heritage, not only in Italy but also abroad, through conferences, exhibitions and publications.
The entire CICOP Italy community rallies around the family and friends of Prof. Corazzi in this moment of pain, with the awareness that his teaching and his cultural legacy will continue to live on in our activities and in the hearts of those who have had the privilege of knowing him.
