Meletis Apostolides was born in the occupied village of Lapithos in Kyrenia district. He studied Civil Engineering and Architecture in London. During this period he has also attended classes in ceramics, sculpture, painting, etching, photography and Graphic arts.
He worked as an Architect, with James Cubit and Partners Architects, for seven years, in London and in Libya, mostly for Middle East projects. He was employed as a senior Architect at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), for 29 years, mainly in the areas of:
- preservation of architectural heritage of the rural areas, engaging in the evaluation, ranking and licensing more than 350 traditional tourist accommodations.
- development o Agrotourism – rural tourist programmes of CTO, supervising more than 100 architectural interventions ina respective number of traditional villages.
- design of numerous tourist pavilions for CTO’s exhibitions, and
- implementation of various spatial and planning CTO’s policies all over Cyprus.
In parallel, he participated in many scientific, ecological, architectural and /or touristic interest seminars.
Furthermore, he was a member of various evaluation committees for architectural and artistic competitions, representing EKATE, ETEK, CTO and CAA. He was appointed, for nine years, by the Council of Ministers as a member of the Committee for Contemporary Monuments (chaired by the Ministry of Education).
He has given various lectures on traditional architecture, heritage and touristic policies.
During the last yeas, he published poetry and political cartoons.
He was also appointed as a member of the Cyprus National Theatre Awards Committee (2014-2015 and 2015-2016)
During the last 30 years he participated in many visual art exhibitions with the Chamber of Arts (ΕΚΑΤΕ) and other organisations and individuals. He has exhibited in Cyprus, Greece, Russia and UK (three solo exhibitions).
