Irene Chryshocheri was born in Alexandria, Egypt. She studied History of Art and Archeology at the University of Athens and completed her postgraduate studies in Maritime Archeology at the Univeristy of Southampton, UK and Social Anthropology at the University of the Aegean, Greece. She received her Ph.D. in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London.
The last years she participated in several underwater/maritime archaeology projects in Greece and Egypt as a diver archaeologist. She has also curated a number of exhibitions in both countries and participated in the making of documentary films as a historical researcher. She has also been involved in teaching courses at different levels, covering the areas of maritime archaeology, history of art and visual anthropology.
