Burcu Özgüven is full Professor of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey. She is an architect and architectural historian specializing in built heritage within the Ottoman territories from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, and urban heritage in Istanbul during the period of westernization. Her doctoral dissertation is on the Ottoman fortifications built by Mehmet the Conqueror (1996). She published a book on the cities and Ottoman- Hungarian fortifications (2001) and many articles on the early modern Ottoman military, as well as modernization in the early twentieth century. She has contributed to BRAU 2 and 3 in Edirne, by organizing workshops.
